EP Student wins Math Art prize

Congratulations to Ms. Nutcha Taweechot (Earn), a Grade 10 student (Mathayom 4/1) in the English Program at Sarakhampittayakhom School, for her outstanding achievement in the regional “Function Art Competition.” Out of 98 talented young creators across Southeast Asia, Nutcha’s innovative artwork, titled “Pokemon,” was selected to receive a Special Prize for its exceptional blend of mathematical precision and artistic creativity.

The Intersection of Math and Art
The Function Art Competition, organized by SEAMEO STEM-ED, challenged students to look beyond the numbers and see the beauty in mathematics. Participants were tasked with creating complex visual designs using mathematical functions on a graphing platform.

Earn’s winning Mathematical artwork

Earn’s winning piece, “Pokemon” (ID0005), stands as a testament to her mastery of mathematical thinking. Her design transformed abstract equations into a vivid, recognizable character, demonstrating a deep understanding of how variables and functions can be used as “brushes” to paint a digital canvas.

A Regional Triumph
The competition was highly competitive, featuring 98 entries from 11 SEAMEO member countries, as well as China, Japan, and South Korea. The judging committee evaluated submissions based on:

Originality and Creativity: How unique and imaginative the visual concept was.

Mathematical Depth: The complexity and effective use of various functions.

Innovation: The ability to bring a concept to life through the lens of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

Nutcha’s work was highlighted for its impressive use of functions—with some top entries in the competition using up to 900 individual equations—to achieve such detailed results.

Empowering Future Innovators
As a student of the English Program at Sarakhampittayakhom School, Nutcha’s success reflects the program’s commitment to academic excellence and 21st-century skills. By integrating art with STEM (STEAM), students are encouraged to think critically and solve problems in creative ways.

This award not only brings pride to Sarakhampittayakhom School and Maha Sarakham province but also serves as an inspiration to fellow students across Thailand to explore the limitless possibilities of STEM education.

Well done, Earn! We look forward to seeing more of your brilliant innovations in the future.
